VICTORIOUS at his first contest, Bendigo’s Shane Engelsman is building up for his next show.
After many weeks of dieting and hundreds of hours’ training, Engelsman was declared No. 1 in the novice division at the Melbourne Natural Physique Titles run by the International Natural Bodybuilding Association.
The 33-year-old has had little time to reflect on his victory, with his next showdown being the Natural Physique Titles for Australasian Natural Bodybuilding on May 9 at La Trobe University Bundoora.
Weight training had been a pursuit of Engelsman’s for more than eight years.
“Bodybuilding was something I had always thought about having a go at,’’ he said before another workout at the Strathdale-based Feelgood Fitness.
“It was an awsome feeling,’’ he said of his competition debut.
A strict diet began 16 weeks ago as he worked toward his goal, as well as gaining valuable tips from Warren Clampett.
“Dieting is the most challenging part of all the training,’’ Engelsman said.
“It’s a 100 per cent commitment,’’ he said of diet, training, and cardio.
Engelsman said a goal in training was more about definition and symmetry, than being the biggest competitor on stage.
From the eve of the show, the bodybuilder drank a limited amount of water.
“You have to be careful not to dehydrate, but the less fluid in your body helps a lot for definition and the skin being tighter.’’
This was the first INBA show I've been to and I was impressed with the quality. It was disappointing however for some of the first time competitors who had obviously not been told the basics about tanning or posing. Hopefully they'll learn from the experience and show themselves off to their true potential next time.
Hi everyone, I need a first post so that I can see the photos. Cheers!
Just to make other lurkers aware, and repeating myself......
If people are not interested enough to post, then really disallowing pic viewing in this one forum only...makes financial sense to us. Serving up tons of images [site has around 15,000 total] costs money obviously.
Again, next server jump is $2,500 a year, which I personally will have to pay.
I think the least, the very least people can do if they are interested to see these 500 pics on this one subforum is post something of use anywhere on the forum.
It's only these 500 pics, the other 14,500 anyone can view.
I have deleted stacks of these posts which add nothing, if I get one more....I will bump the post requirement to 3 or 5 posts to prevent it.
I hate being like this, but why should I personally pay $2,500 a year for people to view pics who won't even show the respect to make a half decent post that takes 2 secs?
If they join in, cool, if not - I would prefer to save that money and use it to pay for even more show coverage for people who are interested and respectful enough to make an on topic post.
thanks guys, I'm feeling a bit better about the tan now. Good thing I got a second chance to see what I really look like in the overall's. That said, I have some photos of the juniors that look absolutely epic.
I'd love to do it all again, especially now I've leant so much about show-day, but I'm not sure if I'm going to have the time.
I guess october's junior's can sleep easy unless I have a last minute change of plans.
peace.
Mate, I thought your physique was outstanding. Very good for your first show. You'll learn all the tricks and will look even better at your next show.
Cheers
