At least the show is on near one or two others, so competitors can enter those instead.
Without wanting to be too hard on competitors, they whinge and moan about wanting more shows, more classes and more prizes, but when you go out and do it, none of them turn-up.

Agreed.
This may look bad on the promoter, but if he didn't get enough girls - what happens? He holds the show, hardly pulls in any money from entry fees/door tickets while having the same expenses as if 70 people turned up and 400 audience members. He would be left holding the bag, which I assume would be thousands of dollars, while people criticize his show has being crappy for a small lineup most likely.
If I was him, I would chuck the show as well.
Not that I blame the competitors. I myself, as a fitness competitor [hardly any of us left] have been near stalked in my day by promoters to compete, and many times I have not [been out of shape at the time, no motivation etc], so I know that side as well - asked to do a show and not done so.
Like GoFigure said, kinda small country with alot of shows [which in the scheme of things is great] so this is bound to happen. Just a sad reality.
