NZ WNBF Cancels 2009 Show: Cost of Drug Testing Cited
Information from Ra Paku swiped from one of NZ's top sites: GoFigure.co.nz

My goal for organising a WNBF competiton in NZ was to provide NZ athletes with a fully tested show. The intention was never to make money by running the competition but the show did need to break even. The cost of drug testing equated to having to pass a minimum cost of $200 to competitors ($99 registration, $100 toward testing). In today's economic climate I could not see this as a viable option therefore have decided not to commit to organising a WNBF show in New Zealand.
My recommendation to those athletes interested in competing for the WNBF is to do so in Australia. Remember we are taking a team across to the Gold Coast in May to compete at the ANB and WNBF competitions. If you're interested contact either myself or Ali.

LOL.............Gee, what a shame.
I've been talking them down in NZ too.
Seriously, this just makes Danny's shows over here look even worse.
At least Ra was attempting do some serious drug testing, ($100 per athlete), unlike Danny who gets his $2 Pregnancy Kit off ebay and slugs his promoters $15 each for them.
I can't see Ra being too popular with anyone from the WNBF if she is encouraging athletes to do an ANB show as well.
This is a huge no-no for WNBF promoters.
Ra sounds like a decent person, hopefully she will wake up to Danny soon.

I'm coming over with the girls (not to compete) to the ANB and WNBF comps on the gold coast. From our point of view, it looks like a great weekend of competition and most of the girls are doing both shows so its a win for everyone I reckon. Should be fun!

I wish someone would stand up & tell us What these drug tests actually show.I know they are looking at your test level & if you are using recreational drugs but what about things like gh,insulin & all the so-called drugs that avoid detection.Tell us how much it costs to provide a drugtest for these substances. This would make for a very interesting topic.Maybe they should polygraph all natural competitors. How do all the different federations do their testing? Is it random? How many people do they test in a show?It sounds to me if you test everyone then there wont be a show.

I am going to contact this infamous Danny [I don't know him] and ask for an interview. So much is said about him.
I am actually not familiar with the "inner workings" of then WNBF Aust, but am familiar with the American side, and it's a great org over there run by good people.

The word "drug testing" is bandied about alot, but you are correct for what? The IFBB pro leagues had the audacity at one time to claim shows were tested, as they tested for a few diuretics.
The whole drug testing many orgs do the best they can - but drug tests don't catch users - they catch dumb people. That's it, although not PC to say.
Look at the time it takes for many substances to get out of ones system - some as low as 4 days. So really, it's not rocket science for someone to stick to those substances that get out the the bloodstream easy and clear out for a drug test.
I have no clue what an IOC standard test costs in Australia, tried googling to no avail, but I do know last time I was tested to IOC standards in North America the cost was a few hundred American dollars - and this was some years ago. Since Australia, apart from real estate, is always prohibitively more expensive then the USA I find it hard to believe it's cheaper.
Only way to even begin to have accurate testing that really gets into the nuts and bolts, is to have IOC standard done on every competitor, and done randomly through the year. Since this would cost an insane amount of cash - it won't be happening obviously.
Really, facts are facts, enhanced bodybuilders will be nasty and compete in natty orgs. Happens worldwide, all one can do is seek to reduce it, can never be eliminated. In the end all one can do is take pleasure in their own accomplishments and what they have done.

Great idea baby, make sure I get to interview him.
From what I've seen and heard, WNBF are a pretty sharp organisation in the US.
Over here in Aust its a shit fight.
You couldn't hope to see a more unorganised bunch of rubble in your life.
The shows are shit, the judging's shit, the testing's shit...................they are an insult to every bodybuilder in Aust.
The US WNBF would be mortified if they knew how things were done over here.

Hi Patricia,
first time poster, well done on a great site. I am The INBA promoter for South Australia. An ASADA Test costs me around $700:00 for each one. This is a proper IOC approved test. As you can see the cost limits the amount of test INBA promoters can afford to do.
Cheers,
KIM.
